Ralph Mupita, President and CEO of MTN Group, has unveiled plans for a substantial $100 million investment in MTN’s operations in Cameroon, reaffirming the telco’s commitment to driving the country’s digital transformation.
During meetings with key stakeholders in Yaoundé, Mupita announced that MTN would invest $100 million (62.4 billion XAF) in 2025, followed by an additional $300 million (187.2 billion XAF) over the subsequent three years. These funds are earmarked for enhancing network infrastructure, particularly in artificial intelligence and data center development, ensuring improved service delivery and operational efficiency.
Mupita was joined by a delegation that included MTN Cameroon CEO Mitwa Kaemba Ng’ambi for high-level discussions with government officials. Among those they met were Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute; Minister of State Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh; Minister of Posts and Telecommunications Minette Libom Li Likeng; Philemeon P. Zoo Zame, Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Board; and Mandla Langa, South Africa’s High Commissioner to Cameroon.
In a statement, MTN Group emphasized that these engagements highlighted the company’s dedication to fostering strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure the success of Cameroon’s telecom sector. “These high-level engagements underscore MTN’s commitment to fostering a thriving telecom sector and driving positive change in Cameroon. With these significant investments, MTN reaffirms its role as a leader in the country’s digital transformation and economic development,” the statement read.

The investments align with Mupita’s earlier remarks that Cameroon, along with Ghana and Uganda, are critical growth markets for Africa’s largest telecom operator. He emphasized the need to sustain strong growth in these countries while implementing strategies to improve performance in other markets such as Côte d’Ivoire, Rwanda, and Zambia.
“In our markets portfolio, the priority is to sustain the strong growth in markets like Ghana, Uganda, and Cameroon, while implementing the necessary initiatives to turn around the performances in Côte d’Ivoire, Rwanda, and Zambia,” Mupita said earlier this year.
With this announcement, MTN solidifies its position as a key driver of innovation and economic progress in Cameroon’s telecom industry
