Orange and La Poste have announced a pioneering initiative to extend the lifespan of network equipment used during the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Starting in 2025, the partnership will see approximately 90% of the Wi-Fi terminals and 78% of the switches from the Olympic sites repurposed for use at La Poste locations across France.
This large-scale reuse plan is a key part of the Paris 2024 legacy, emphasizing sustainable practices and minimizing the environmental impact of digital technology. As a result, La Poste employees will gain access to enhanced connectivity through refurbished, state-of-the-art equipment, supporting their digitalization efforts and operational efficiency.
The initiative reflects the shared commitment of both companies to adopt responsible and sustainable practices. Thousands of telecom devices, including advanced Wi-Fi terminals, will be deployed at prominent La Poste sites, such as the Maison de l’Innovation in Nantes, hosting over 800 IT professionals. These devices, used for only a short duration during the Games, have been rigorously tested to ensure optimal performance and durability.
“This reuse aligns with our commitment to promote responsible digital practices,” said Philippe Bajou, Secretary General of the La Poste Group and President of La Poste Group Immobilier. “It demonstrates how we can reduce the environmental footprint of our tools and applications.”
For Orange, the initiative reinforces its dedication to providing eco-designed and second-hand network equipment. “The Paris 2024 Games showcased our technical expertise. I am proud that this top-quality equipment is being repurposed to benefit La Poste, illustrating our commitment to a sustainable and connected future,” said Aliette Mousnier-Lompré, CEO of Orange Business.

Both Orange and La Poste have set ambitious goals to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. This partnership highlights their broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) objectives, focusing on reducing carbon footprints, optimizing resource use, and extending the lifecycle of IT equipment through repair and reuse.
By repurposing network equipment from the Olympic Games, Orange and La Poste are setting an example of how businesses can drive environmental stewardship while advancing digital innovation.
