The Africa Digital Economy Forum (ADEF) recently organized a workshop in Accra, Ghana, aimed at educating young people about Web3. The two-day hybrid event which had both in-person, as well as online participants who joined the session via zoom, took place from April 27th to 28th and was centered around the theme “Web 3.0 and Why it matters”. The workshop featured industry experts who shared their insights with participants about the importance of Web3 and blockchain technology.
In his opening address read on his behalf by Mr. Oluwafemi Olasegiri, the CEO of Africa Digital Economy Forum, Mr. Akin Naphtal, thanked the attendees for their interest in learning about emerging technologies. He emphasized the need for the youth to take up the mantle and lead the charge in Africa’s digitalization journey and beyond. The workshop was aimed at equipping participants with the knowledge and understanding needed to navigate the changing technological landscape of the world.

Naa Korkoi Essah a member of ADEF who opened the ceremony expressed excitement about the workshop.
She indicated that “Web 3.0 is an exciting development that has the potential to revolutionize the internet and create new opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship. However, it is important to acknowledge and address the challenges and risks that come with a decentralized model. As with any technological innovation, it is important to approach Web 3.0 with a critical eye and a commitment to responsible and ethical development”.

Mr. Tolu Fasanmi, an advisor to web3 firms and projects, outlined the basic principles of web3 and blockchain technology during his presentation on “everything blockchain and web3”. He explained the core foundations upon which these technologies function and how they can be used to improve people’s lives.
During his presentation on the regulations governing web3.0 and blockchain technology, Mr. Gerald Antwi, the founder of Kaki Tech-Lab, emphasized the importance of having a thorough understanding of these policies. He explained that such knowledge would enable individuals and businesses operating in the space to make informed decisions and derive maximum benefits from the technology. Essentially, he emphasized that being well-informed about the regulatory landscape of the industry is critical for success and growth.
Vicentia Asilevi, the founder of Crypthority, highlighted the numerous opportunities open to users in her presentation on ‘how to earn with blockchain technology’. She noted that people could earn money by hosting a node, participating in decentralized finance, starting a cryptocurrency, making and selling art on the blockchain, among other things. She hammered on the numerous opportunities that blockchain technology provides for individuals looking to make money in the field. Throughout the workshop, participants were given tech-related tasks to work on in groups under the guidance of the speakers. The aim was to encourage teamwork and foster problem-solving skills. The workshop was in congruence with the Government of Ghana’s Digital Ghana agenda, which seeks to create a standardized digital infrastructure across the country. After the event, certificates of participation were awarded to the attendees.
