Microsoft has announced an increase in its investment in the Africa Development Centre (ADC) by transferring ownership and ongoing product development of Azure Active Directory Domain Services to the ADC in Nairobi. Azure Active Directory Domain Services is a Microsoft Security product with annual revenue of USD 40 million and a customer base of 300,000 global enterprises. This move reflects Microsoft’s commitment to fostering technology skills and talent in Africa through its premier engineering arm on the continent.

Catherine Muraga, Managing Director of Microsoft ADC, expressed confidence in the existing talent at the centre and emphasized the company’s goal of not only expanding product ownership within ADC but also developing more experts in the field. Muraga, in her role as Engineering Director, will lead the teams responsible for working on Azure Active Directory Domain Services.
Azure Active Directory Domain Services offers a range of features that enable Microsoft customers to create and manage their organizations’ identities on Azure cloud services. These identities allow customers to migrate or operate software applications from physical servers to Azure cloud services. By utilizing an Azure AD DS managed domain, organizations can run legacy applications in the cloud that cannot use modern authentication methods.
