UK-based emobility startup, OX Delivers, has secured a £1.2 million funding grant from Energy Catalyst, as it pursues a program aimed at driving inclusive clean energy transitions across Global South regions in Africa, Asia, and Indo-Pacific communities.
The grant from Energy Catalyst will be instrumental in funding the development of a sustainable energy infrastructure in Rwanda, where OX Delivers plans to roll out its upcoming, all-electric OX4 truck. This initiative aims to provide a seamless and efficient transport-as-a-service solution for individuals and businesses, particularly in regions with poor road infrastructure.
OX Delivers has already made significant strides in Rwanda, offering reliable and affordable transport solutions that have transformed thousands of lives. Through its innovative transport-as-a-service model, customers can transport goods to market efficiently and sustainably, bypassing the challenges posed by inadequate transportation infrastructure.
Founder & CEO of OX Delivers, Simon Davis, was enthused about the partnership with Energy Catalyst, noting that it validated OX Delivers’ mission to deliver clean energy and drive economic growth in the Global South. The funding will enable the company to demonstrate the benefits of a low-carbon energy infrastructure, supporting the electrification of its current depots and enhancing access to affordable transport for rural communities.
The OX4 truck, set to begin production in March 2024, is designed specifically for the Global South. The electric truck will build upon the success of its predecessors, offering improved features and capabilities tailored to the needs of local communities. With upgrades such as enhanced driving position, improved visibility, and a proprietary vehicle control unit for more efficient powertrain management, the OX4 is poised to revolutionise transport services across the continent.
Supported by grants from various government and international agencies, as well as investments from angel investors, OX Delivers is well-positioned to expand its impact across East Africa and beyond. With the introduction of the OX4 truck, the company aims to address the transportation needs of three billion people in developing countries, offering affordable and sustainable mobility solutions for underserved communities.
