Avanti Communications and SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation have signed a satellite purchase agreement for the Ka-band communications satellite HYLAS 3, currently owned and operated by Avanti in geostationary orbit.
The acquisition forms part of SKY Perfect JSAT’s broader strategy to strengthen its space business. The satellite is expected to begin operations under the new name JSAT-144D in early fiscal year 2027.
HYLAS 3 is equipped with advanced Ka-band multi-spot beams, offering high-capacity communications and flexible network configurations. By integrating it with SKY Perfect JSAT’s existing Ku-band satellite fleet, the Japanese company will create a highly reliable multi-band communications network capable of addressing increasingly diverse and sophisticated customer requirements.
The move aligns with SKY Perfect JSAT’s mid-to-long-term satellite fleet strategy, aimed at meeting rising demand for satellite communications, including in the national security domain. The company plans to optimise its satellite assets while expanding high-value-added services and building a more flexible and sustainable communications infrastructure.
Strengthening global connectivity
Avanti Communications CEO Kyle Whitehill welcomed the partnership, describing the transaction as a validation of Avanti’s Ka-band capabilities.
“We are delighted to partner with SKY Perfect JSAT on this important agreement for HYLAS 3,” Whitehill said. “This transaction reflects the strength and reliability of Avanti’s Ka-band assets and highlights the growing strategic value of flexible satellite communications infrastructure in an evolving global market.”
He added that the collaboration will help meet increasing demand for secure, resilient, and high-performance connectivity solutions across government, enterprise, and mobility sectors.
