Microsoft has appointed Samer Abu-Ltaif as the new President of Microsoft Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), succeeding Ralph Haupter, who will transition to lead Microsoft’s newly established Small, Medium Enterprises, and Channel Partner organization.
In his new role, Abu-Ltaif will oversee Microsoft’s operations across more than 120 markets, focusing on accelerating digital transformation, fostering collaboration, and leveraging AI-driven solutions to drive innovation and economic growth.
With over two decades at Microsoft, Abu-Ltaif brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as President for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (CEMA). Under his leadership, Microsoft strengthened strategic partnerships, expanded its regional presence, and delivered enhanced value to customers and partners.
Abu-Ltaif has been instrumental in advancing Microsoft’s footprint in the region, spearheading initiatives such as the launch of Microsoft’s first African data center in South Africa, as well as datacenter expansions in the UAE, Qatar, and Poland. His efforts also include the establishment of a Global Engineering Development Center in the UAE and planned datacenter regions in Greece, Saudi Arabia, and Kenya. Additionally, he played a key role in the launch of the Microsoft Africa Development Center in Kenya and Microsoft’s $1.5 billion investment in Abu Dhabi’s G42 to accelerate AI innovation.

Beyond infrastructure, Abu-Ltaif has been a strong advocate for digital skills development, leading initiatives such as Tomoh, AthkaU, TechDev, and Microsoft’s partnership with the African Development Bank. These programs have empowered millions with essential digital skills, preparing them for the evolving tech landscape. His commitment to sustainability has also driven impactful collaborations with governments, businesses, and startups, reinforcing Microsoft’s role in advancing environmental and economic initiatives in the region.
Based in the UAE, Abu-Ltaif has held several senior leadership positions at Microsoft, including President for the Middle East and Africa and Regional Director for the Gulf. He holds an MBA in Leadership and Sustainability, along with a degree in Computer Science Studies from the American University of Beirut.
His appointment signals Microsoft’s continued commitment to fostering digital transformation, innovation, and inclusive economic growth across the EMEA region.
