The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched a three-day capacity-building workshop on data generation, analytics, and storage to enhance the service’s capabilities in modern customs operations through improved data handling.
During the launch, which took place on Monday, 13th May, at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College (NCCSC) in Gwagwalada, Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) Malanta Yusuf, representing the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, highlighted the crucial role of data in strategic planning and operational efficiency.
He stressed that effective decision-making is heavily dependent on robust data generation and analytics. “Historical data is essential for organisations like Customs, responsible for border management and trade facilitation,” he stated.
“This workshop is designed to equip officers with comprehensive knowledge in various aspects of data management,” Yusuf added, encouraging attendees to fully engage with the training. He noted that the enhanced skills in understanding smuggling networks, identifying high-risk threats, and gathering intelligence would significantly benefit the officers. “This practical learning experience aims to empower you in your roles, contributing to the overall success of the NCS,” he explained.
Yusuf also highlighted the importance of integrating innovative solutions and geospatial intelligence into current data analysis practices. He urged officers to approach the workshop with enthusiasm, stressing that the acquired skills would foster both professional development and operational efficiency.
Expressing his gratitude, Yusuf thanked CGC Adeniyi, the workshop organisers, and the participants for their contributions to the session. He expressed hope that the training would act as a catalyst for continuous learning and improvement within the NCS.
