Ericsson has been named leader in the 2024 edition of Gartner Magic Quadrant for Communications Service Providers (CSPs) 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) Infrastructure Solutions.
It would be recalled that Magic Quadrant is a series of market research reports published by Gartner- an American technological research and consulting firm, which relies on proprietary qualitative data analysis methods to demonstrate market trends, such as direction, maturity and participants.
Gartner’s report unearths a comprehensive market overview of essential 5G radio access network (RAN) infrastructure capabilities, evaluating vendors based on Completeness of Vision and Ability to Execute.
The 2024 report exclusively focuses on 5G RAN, marking a shift from previous editions that also covered core networks. For three consecutive years, Ericsson has maintained its leadership status in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for 5G Network Infrastructure for CSPs.
Ericsson powers nearly half of the mobile 5G traffic outside China and is adept at modernizing legacy 4G sites to 5G, achieving a tenfold increase in capacity and over 30% energy savings. A recent GSA report indicates around 300 5G networks are in commercial service, with Ericsson supporting 162 live 5G networks across 69 countries.
In his reaction, Executive Vice President and Head of Networks at Ericsson Fredrik Jejdling expressed pride in the recognition: “We are delighted to once again be acknowledged for our ability to execute and deliver in a market that is constantly evolving and presenting new challenges,”
Jejdling further said “We’ve worked hard on earning customer trust, with a significant step-up in speed and resilience. Together with our technology leadership, it’s the foundation of how we do business offering sustainable and innovative solutions to our customers.”
Ericsson’s commercial 5G leadership and commitment to pioneering technology evolution are widely acknowledged across the industry. The company has been ranked as the leader in the Frost Radar™ 5G Network Infrastructure Market 2024 analysis for the fourth consecutive year. Additionally, the latest ABI report on telco vendors’ sustainability positions Ericsson at number one.
Ericsson customers also excel in public performance benchmarks, with a 72% win ratio in markets where Ericsson is present, based on an analysis of 258 public 2023 benchmark reports for both 4G and 5G.
Continuously evolving its portfolio, Ericsson offers 5G RAN with the Ericsson Radio System, Cloud RAN, and 5G Transport, alongside professional services. Its hardware includes energy-efficient, small, and lightweight Massive MIMO and multiband radios powered by Ericsson’s latest custom silicon and prepared for Open RAN. The company’s innovative software solutions feature the Automated Energy Saver and differentiated 5G connectivity kit.
