ExploreAI Academy, a Cape Town-based start-up that specializes in developing data science skills, has partnered with ALX, a training firm, to offer data science and analytics skills training across Africa. The partnership aims to train 25,000 African students over the next 18 months. The move is part of African Leadership International’s plans to expand its operations. The companies will focus on training young talent in digital and tech sectors. The partnership is expected to turn African potential into best-in-class excellence.
According to ExploreAI Academy, developed economies are experiencing a shortage of digital and tech skills and Africa is emerging as a potential source of talented young people. “Investing in African digital skills and innovation-driven learning is the best way to turn African potential into best-in-class excellence”, said ALI CEO and founder Fred Swaniker.

Since its inception about five years ago, ExploreAI Academy has trained 3,000 graduates, with 90% of them finding employment, including many from disadvantaged communities. The partnership with ALX requires significant gearing up to meet the demands of new student cohorts. Company founder Shaun Dippnall said, “The shift to online teaching opened the door to talented candidates from across the continent. The partnership with ALX is thus the next logical step for us. Of course, it’s massive in terms of the number of students, but we’re ready for the challenge”.
