The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) have solidified a partnership aimed at deepening collaboration and leveraging global expertise.
The commitment was reaffirmed during a strategic meeting where NITDA’s Director General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, represented by the Director of Corporate Planning and Strategy, Dr. Dimie Shively Warowie, engaged with the Director of the ITU’s Telecommunication Development Bureau. The dialogue centered on a mutual ambition to deliver universal, meaningful, and affordable connectivity for all Nigerians while ensuring a secure digital ecosystem.

The ITU representative commended Nigeria’s regulatory progress, specifically highlighting the nation’s achievement of G5-level collaborative regulation—a benchmark for regulatory excellence. “We applaud the leadership of the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijjani, in this achievement,” the representative stated. Beyond accolades, the ITU Bureau reaffirmed its readiness to provide concrete support, including technical assistance, cybersecurity tools, and backing for initiatives that drive inclusive connectivity and functional digital transformation centres nationwide.
Speaking on behalf of the Director-General, Dr. Warowie outlined NITDA’s strategic pillars. “Our focus remains steadfast on digital skills development, building cybersecurity resilience, fostering innovation and digital entrepreneurship, and harmonising regulatory frameworks and technical standards to create an enabling environment,” Dr. Warowie said.
Both parties identified key immediate priority areas for sustained collaboration, including: Scaling up digital literacy initiatives, Cybersecurity capacity building for institutions and citizens, Support for innovation and tech entrepreneurship, Enhancing school connectivity across the country, Further alignment of regulatory frameworks with global best practices.
This renewed partnership underscores a collective resolve to harness institutional synergies, aiming to build a more inclusive, secure, and competitive digital economy for Nigeria.
