Telecommunications giant Ericsson has announced the appointment of Per Narvinger as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, following the decision of long-serving CEO Börje Ekholm to step down from the role.
According to the company, Narvinger will officially assume the position on October 1, 2026, succeeding Ekholm, who will retire after nearly a decade as Ericsson’s CEO. Ekholm will step down on September 30, 2026, and will remain with the company as an executive advisor to support the leadership transition until June 15, 2027.
Narvinger, who joined Ericsson in 1997, brings nearly three decades of experience across multiple areas of the telecommunications and ICT industry. Throughout his career, he has held leadership positions spanning research, standardization, product development, management, and sales, while also working closely with global customers. His previous international assignments include long-term roles in Australia and Spain.
Most recently, Narvinger has led Ericsson’s Business Area Networks since March 2025, after serving as head of Business Area Cloud Software and Services from 2022.
Commenting on the appointment, Ericsson Board Chairman Jan Carlson said Narvinger’s deep technical expertise and extensive commercial experience made him the ideal candidate to lead the company at a critical period in its evolution.

“The Board is pleased to appoint Per Narvinger as CEO at a very important time for Ericsson,” Carlson said, adding that Narvinger had demonstrated strong leadership across several key roles within the organization.
Narvinger described his appointment as a significant milestone, noting that he was honored to lead a company where he had spent his entire professional career.
He emphasized that the telecommunications industry is entering a transformative phase driven by the industrialization of artificial intelligence, which will increase demand for advanced connectivity solutions, an area where Ericsson continues to strengthen its leadership position.
The company also paid tribute to Ekholm’s contributions during his tenure, highlighting his role in strengthening Ericsson’s global market position and driving strategic transformation initiatives.
Reflecting on his departure, Ekholm said Ericsson had undergone a major turnaround since he took over as CEO in 2017, evolving into a leading communications and technology company while helping shape the future of mobile connectivity and AI-driven network innovation.
