OpenAI has unveiled Sora, a groundbreaking text-to-video model, for ChatGPT Plus and Pro users. The tool marks a significant leap into multimodal AI, positioning OpenAI alongside competitors such as Meta, Google, and Stability AI, which are developing similar technologies
Initially introduced in February 2023 during a research preview, Sora was exclusively accessible to safety testers. Now rebranded as Sora Turbo, the model allows subscribers to create videos up to 20 seconds long in 1080p resolution without incurring additional costs. Users can choose from widescreen, vertical, or square formats, generating content from scratch or blending existing assets.
While the feature is available in most regions supported by ChatGPT, the European Union, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom are notably excluded from the rollout. OpenAI has indicated plans to introduce tiered pricing for diverse user categories starting early next year, emphasizing its commitment to making the technology broadly accessible.
To address potential misuse, OpenAI has implemented strict safeguards. The platform prohibits harmful content, including child exploitation materials and deepfake videos. The ability to upload real individuals is currently limited, with plans to expand access as safeguards evolve.

In line with its focus on transparency, all Sora-generated videos feature metadata identifying them as AI-generated, along with visible watermarks. OpenAI is also developing tools to verify content origins, reinforcing its commitment to responsible AI use.
With Sora’s integration, OpenAI is enhancing creative possibilities while shaping industry standards for ethical AI implementation. This move underscores the company’s mission to build tools that advance content creation and promote responsible technology adoption.
