MTN Nigeria has announced the appointment of Yahaya Ibrahim as its new Chief Technical Officer (CTO). Ibrahim, a telecommunications expert with over two decades of experience, has played a pivotal role in deploying Nigeria’s first 4G and 5G networks, solidifying MTN’s reputation as a leader in advanced technology on the continent.
With a career at MTN spanning more than two decades, Ibrahim brings a wealth of expertise and dynamic leadership to his new role. Known for his innovative approach to network capacity enhancement and connectivity optimization, he has been instrumental in the rollout of complex ICT infrastructures and cutting-edge technologies across Africa. His tenure has seen MTN Nigeria rise as the largest telecommunications provider on the continent.
Before assuming the CTO position, Ibrahim served as General Manager from 2022 to 2024, where he oversaw network implementation, program management, and business innovation initiatives. Between 2021 and 2023, he was General Manager for Network Access Planning and Optimization, focusing on product development and ensuring networks met evolving consumer demands.
Earlier in his career, Ibrahim managed critical infrastructure projects, including the rollout of over 37,000 kilometers of fiber optic infrastructure as General Manager of Network Implementation in 2015. His roles as Senior Manager of Network Core and Fibre Implementation from 2008 to 2013 further underscored his commitment to driving innovation and solving complex technical challenges.

Ibrahim holds a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics from the University of Abuja and a Master’s degree in Telecommunications from Birmingham City University. He has also completed executive management programs at Lagos Business School and Harvard Business School.
