Raxio Group, a carrier-neutral Tier III data center operator, has inaugurated a $30 million data center in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), marking a focal point in the nation’s digital ecosystem.
The facility, named Raxio DRC1, is the largest of its kind in the country and has received Tier III accreditation from the Uptime Institute, a global industry authority.
Located in Limete, southeast of Kinshasa, the two-story, 1,542-square-meter data center represents a key component of the DRC’s Plan National du Numérique, which aims to foster digital inclusion, stimulate private sector growth, and accelerate the digital transformation of public services. The state-of-the-art facility can accommodate up to 400 racks and deliver 1.5MW of IT power, providing essential infrastructure for the nation’s growing digital economy.
Raxio highlighted the strategic placement of the data center along major fiber routes, enabling robust colocation and connectivity services. The facility operates 24/7, ensuring uninterrupted service, and boasts multiple pathways for power and cooling systems, adhering to Tier III standards. The use of modern components underscores the company’s commitment to efficiency and environmental sustainability.
Construction of Raxio DRC1 began in early 2023 and was completed in record time, according to the company. Robert Mullins, CEO of Raxio Group, emphasized the importance of the new facility for the DRC, one of Africa’s largest and fastest-growing markets.

“With this facility, we are providing the critical infrastructure essential to supporting the digital economy and enhancing connectivity,” Mullins said. He added that Raxio plans to expand its presence in the DRC with additional capacity and new facilities in the future.
This latest venture is part of Raxio’s broader expansion across Africa, following the launch of data centers in Uganda, Ethiopia, and Mozambique. The DRC facility is the fourth Raxio center to open this year, featuring the group’s largest Day 1 capacity to date.
Raxio reported strong momentum behind its pan-African digital backbone rollout, with increasing demand for data center capacity from local enterprises, the public sector, and global hyper-scale cloud service providers, content delivery networks, and mobile network operators.
Yannick Sukakumu, General Manager of Raxio DRC, praised the government’s role in facilitating the project’s rapid completion. “The commitment and pragmatism of the government have been key enabling factors in driving our project from inception to completion in record time,” Sukakumu said. He expressed confidence that the new data center would inspire further digital economy expansion in the region.
As Raxio continues its mission to close sub-Saharan Africa’s connectivity gap, the Kinshasa facility stands as a critical enabler of digital inclusion, positioning the DRC as a leader in the continent’s digital transformation.
