Etihad Cargo, the cargo and logistics division of Etihad Airways, has introduced an innovative artificial intelligence (AI) solution to revolutionize its airfreight operations and enhance cargo capacity on flights. By deploying advanced AI tools, Etihad Cargo aims to optimize capacity and improve cargo volumes across its network, marking a significant step in its digitalization journey.
In collaboration with Speedcargo Technologies, a leading provider of logistics technology solutions, Etihad Cargo embarked on a proof-of-concept agreement in 2021 to leverage AI products for maximizing cargo capacity. Following successful trials, Etihad Cargo has now implemented three AI-powered products: Amplifi, Cargo Eye and Assemble. These solutions are designed to enhance efficiency, digitize cargo handling processes and standardize operations throughout the Etihad Cargo network, ultimately improving service levels for customers and partners.
Amplifi, the first AI tool, enables Etihad Cargo to optimize cargo loads on each flight by dynamically calculating available capacity based on booked cargo and aircraft type. By generating ULD (unit load device) level load plans, Etihad Cargo can maximize cargo carried and minimize the risk of overbookings. Cargo Eye, powered by Microsoft’s IoT Edge solutions and Speedcargo’s proprietary algorithms, captures cargo dimensions and volume data.
