Bamboo, a Nigerian investment platform, has become the first financial technology company in the country to secure a U.S. broker-dealer license. The certification, obtained through its affiliate, Bamboo Securities L.L.C., is a significant milestone for the company and the broader African fintech ecosystem.
The license grants Bamboo the authority to partner directly with African brokers and financial institutions, creating a streamlined pathway for African investors to access U.S. stock markets. This development enables seamless integration for various companies with Bamboo’s platform, allowing their clients to trade U.S. stocks effortlessly through existing service providers.
This move addresses a critical gap in Africa’s wealth management landscape, where the continent’s participation in global wealth remains disproportionately low despite its population size. Bamboo’s initiative aligns with the rising demand for democratized investment opportunities, empowering individuals across Africa to participate in international markets using just a smartphone.
Since its inception in 2019, Bamboo has grown significantly, amassing over 300,000 active users who trade both U.S. and Nigerian stocks. The platform offers access to thousands of investment options across both markets, expanding the financial opportunities available to African investors.

Bamboo is also diversifying its offerings with the launch of “Coins by Bamboo,” a remittance-focused app designed for Nigerians in the diaspora. This service provides a cost-effective and efficient way to send money home, showcasing Bamboo’s commitment to addressing multiple financial needs within the African market.
The company’s latest achievement represents a turning point in connecting African investors with global financial markets. By facilitating broader access to international investments, Bamboo is poised to reshape the continent’s fintech landscape and enhance African representation in the global financial ecosystem.
