Swedish streaming giant Spotify has announced that it is expanding its generative AI-powered playlist creation tool, initially launched in the UK and Australia in April, to four new markets, including the United States (US) and Canada.
The feature, helps premium subscribers personalise playlists by allowing them to refine song selections using text prompts. Known as AI Playlist, the tool is still in beta and will be made available in Ireland and New Zealand as well. provisional
Spotify aims to boost its competitive edge in the crowded streaming market by enhancing its app with innovative AI features, as it faces growing pressure from rivals like Apple Music and Amazon Music.
Unlike other AI tools, Spotify’s AI Playlist is strictly focused on music and will not generate results based on non-music-related queries, such as news or brands, while in beta. The company also continues to roll out features like Daylist, a playlist that updates daily with fresh music recommendations, and AI DJ, which selects songs based on a user’s listening habits.
Spotify’s reported a 12% increase in paid subscribers in the second quarter of 2024, reaching 246 million globally. Its efforts to improve user experience with AI have proven to be a profitable decision.
