Volocopter, a Germany-based urban air mobility (UAM) company, has chosen SITA as its preferred digital and IT systems partner for vertiports. SITA, an information technology provider for the air transport industry, will contribute to Volocopter’s Series E funding round and provide expertise in air transport to develop new operating standards and a digital-first passenger experience for UAM.
Volocopter’s flagship product, the VoloCity electric air taxi, will offer stable, quiet and safe flights in congested megacities. The flights can be hailed via designated boarding points or vertiports, for which SITA will assist in establishing infrastructure, maintenance, flight operations, IT and customer services.

Christian Bauer, Chief Commercial Officer at Volocopter, said, “Working in concert with our partners, we are setting up for commercial operations. This involves establishing the requisite infrastructure, maintenance, flight operations, IT and customer services”. Sergio Colella, SITA President for Europe, added that SITA will play a vital role in delivering a new digital UAM world and defining a seamless, smarter approach to air travel in a city environment.
Colella added, “Together, we will turn the theory into practice as early as 2024 when we expect the first commercial eVTOLs to take flight”. Last month, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, approved the design of the new flying taxi stations in Dubai, with the first aerial taxi vertiport prototype design located near Dubai International (DXB) and operations set to begin in three years.
