Bayobab, a leading connectivity and infrastructure provider in Africa, has signed a five-year strategic agreement with Infobip to enhance its SMS delivery and security solutions across the continent.
The partnership will see Bayobab leverage Infobip’s Communication Platform as a Service (CPaaS) Customer Modules and Routing management for campaign management, APIs, analytics, and SMS delivery. Additionally, Bayobab, a subsidiary of MTN Group, will utilize Infobip’s security solutions, including firewall protection, to safeguard its mobile subscribers.
According to Infobip, the agreement streamlines SMS connectivity for Bayobab while reducing administrative costs. Traditionally, brands had to establish individual connections with each MTN Group Mobile Network Operator to terminate SMS. With Infobip’s CPaaS enablement platform, Bayobab can now simplify the process, allowing brands and aggregators to connect securely and terminate traffic to MTN and other operators.
“This solution offers enhanced control, security, reporting, and efficiency, benefiting brands, mobile operators, and message recipients,” Infobip stated.
Bayobab, which operates an extensive network of over 115,000 km of fiber cable across Africa, also manages access to 24 subsea cables and more than 70 Points of Presence across Africa, Europe, and Asia.
Speaking on the partnership, Kedar Gupte, Chief Mobility Business Officer at Bayobab, emphasized the significance of the collaboration in addressing Africa’s growing demand for messaging and digital communication.

“We wanted to simplify how brands manage messaging in Africa with a single access point, high-quality service, and necessary controls. Our partnership with Infobip equips us to do this on a large scale and is crucial for tapping into Africa’s growth potential,” Gupte said.
Matija Ražem, Chief Commercial Telecom Officer at Infobip, also highlighted the partnership’s role in optimizing Bayobab’s SMS connectivity and routing across Africa.
“Our partnership supports Bayobab’s expansion plans by optimizing SMS connectivity and routing. We have invested heavily in our CPaaS enablement capabilities, which now serve MNOs worldwide with top-tier security and efficiency,” Ražem stated.
