Cisco Systems, a leading US tech company, plans to establish a manufacturing plant in India as part of its efforts to diversify its global supply chain, according to CEO Chuck Robbins. Solartaxi, a Ghanaian start-up that provides renewable energy transportation solutions, has been chosen as one of ten companies to participate in the inaugural Qualcomm Make in Africa start-up mentorship programme. The programme is part of the Qualcomm Africa Innovation Platform announced in December 2022 and will offer equity-free mentorship to all selected companies in areas such as business planning, engineering, intellectual property protection and advanced technologies such as connectivity, sensing and AI/ML. The Kenya Rural Transformation Centres digital platform (KRTCDP) has been launched by the Cooperative University of Kenya (CUK). The platform will provide farmers with a single electronic platform that connects them with all actors in the agricultural sector value chain. The project, which will run for three years, is set to benefit farmers in Nakuru, Narok and Baringo counties, with maize, Irish potatoes and dairy farming being the initial focus. The German Development Agency (GIZ) has donated 370 laptops to Ghana’s Ministry of Communications Digitalisation (MoCD) to support the Girls-in-ICT Programme. The donation is aimed at motivating girls who have shown promise and skill in the ICT training that has been conducted across the country and to encourage them to pursue their interests in ICT.
