Ericsson’s Interference Sensing software, which was announced on February 9, 2023, has been awarded the “Innovative Breakthrough in Mobile Technology” GTI Award 2023 and the Outstanding Award for significant contribution to the industry at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 event in Barcelona.
The software is designed to optimize mid-band Massive MIMO performance by minimizing inter-cell interference, resulting in an increase in network capacity of up to 40 percent. Interference Sensing is one of more than 10 new radio access network (RAN) and transport solutions unveiled by Ericsson earlier this month.

Sibel Tombaz, Head of Product Line 5G RAN, Ericsson Networks, expressed her pride in the industry recognition the software has received. “It is both humbling and rewarding to win industry recognition for our software innovations”, she said. “Interference Sensing provides up to 40 percent capacity gain on existing Massive MIMO hardware with only a software upgrade. We will continue to push the envelope on our 5G radio access network portfolio to meet current and future market challenges”.
The GTI Award is presented by the Global TD-LTE Initiative, a global organization that promotes the development and deployment of TD-LTE technology. Ericsson’s Interference Sensing software was recognized for its ability to provide a significant breakthrough in mobile technology, enhancing the performance of mid-band Massive MIMO networks. The Outstanding Award, on the other hand, was awarded to Ericsson for its significant contribution to the industry as a whole.
