Microsoft has appointed Angela Nganga as its Country Lead for East Africa, tasking her with driving the company’s digital and artificial intelligence expansion across the region.
The appointment fills a leadership gap that has existed since January 2026, when Phyllis Migwi stepped down as Microsoft’s Kenya Country Manager after three and a half years.
During her tenure, Migwi oversaw the hosting of Africa’s largest Global AI Tour conference in Nairobi and the announcement of a $1 billion digital investment package with G42. Microsoft had been recruiting for the role as it prepared to launch East Africa’s first Azure cloud region and local data centre.
Nganga, a long-serving member of Microsoft’s Middle East and Africa leadership team, brings extensive experience in government engagement, strategic business development, stakeholder management and digital transformation. She will lead Microsoft’s work with governments, enterprises and the startup ecosystem across Kenya and the wider East Africa region, with a particular focus on inclusive digital and AI transformation, local innovation and skills development.

Nganga has held a series of senior roles at Microsoft over nearly 13 years. She most recently served as Interim Country Manager for Microsoft East Africa from February 2026 and continues as Regional Director of Customer Success for East and West Africa, a position she has held since September 2025.
Her earlier roles include Public Sector Education Industry Director , Education Industry Lead for Middle East & Africa Emerging Markets, Director of Corporate Affairs for the same region , and Government Affairs Lead for Middle East and Africa Emerging Markets. She also spent several years as Corporate Affairs Manager and later Corporate Affairs Lead covering East and Southern Africa, Angola, Ghana and the Indian Ocean Islands.
Before joining Microsoft in 2012, Nganga was Head of Corporate Communications at Telkom Kenya (Orange) and Group Public Relations Manager at AAR Holdings Ltd.
