Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has met with Orange Group CEO Christel Heydemann to discuss expanding cooperation in telecommunications, information technology and digital transformation. The meeting, held on September 27, 2026, also included Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindy, Orange Middle East and Africa CEO Yasser Shaker, and Orange Egypt CEO Hesham Mahran.
During the meeting, El-Sisi highlighted Orange’s activities in Egypt across telecommunications, digital transformation, smart platforms, community development and digital education. He also expressed Egypt’s interest in attracting further Orange investment and expanding cooperation in technology and youth development.
The discussions included potential cooperation on the second phase of Egypt’s National Digital Health Project, which could draw on Orange’s expertise in digital infrastructure, cloud computing, cybersecurity and systems integration.
The two sides also discussed initiatives aimed at preparing Egyptian young people for future employment through specialised training in artificial intelligence, data analytics, cloud computing and cybersecurity, alongside opportunities to earn internationally recognised professional certifications.

As part of the planned digital skills initiatives, Orange announced training grants for around 200,000 people in artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. The programme will also provide opportunities for participants to pursue internationally recognised certifications.
Orange also announced plans to allocate €25 million to support startups working in artificial intelligence and advanced technologies. The company will additionally support several Egyptian universities by equipping them with modern technology laboratories, giving students access to practical applications and skills in emerging digital technologies.
Heydemann said Orange’s experience in Egypt could serve as a model for similar initiatives in other countries across the region, particularly in Africa. She also welcomed Egypt’s efforts to support startups, develop youth skills, promote innovation and encourage entrepreneurship.
The meeting reflects Egypt’s wider efforts to strengthen digital capabilities and deepen cooperation with technology companies. Orange’s announced initiatives are expected to focus on digital skills development, AI and cybersecurity training, startup financing, university technology infrastructure and the adoption of advanced technologies.
