Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei is turning to patents for a lifeline as the company seeks to forge a path forward in advanced chip technology — the prized tech which the U.S. is trying to cut off from China. In 2022, Huawei announced it signed more than 20 new or extended licensing agreements for its patents. Most were with automakers, for 4G and LTE wireless technology, the company said. UK-based Stratospheric Platforms Limited (SPL) has received investment from PT Profesional Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Protelindo), the largest telecommunication infrastructure company in Indonesia. SPL seeks to provide high bandwidth telecoms network coverage from the stratosphere using hydrogen-powered High Altitude Platforms (HAPS) delivered by unmanned aircraft. America’s Frontier Fund (AFF) announced to the public it is assembling a group of 12 finance, policy, and technology experts to join its newly formed Strategic Innovation Group. The group will provide strategic guidance to help AFF reach its investment objectives and advance American competitiveness through frontier technologies. Tyneside touch tech specialist Zytronic has invested around £400,000 into new equipment to boost its manufacturing operations. The Blaydon based business has invested in a second laser soldering system within a factory cleanroom, which directors say allows Zytronic to leverage the latest production technology. The system was developed by Industrial Vision Systems Ltd.
