Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation and the Federation of Ethiopian Associations of Persons with Disabilities (FEAPD) have entered into a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on promoting disability inclusion and creating greater opportunities for persons with disabilities across Ethiopia.
The agreement was signed at Safaricom Ethiopia’s headquarters by Bethlehem Tameru, Executive Head of Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation, and Abayneh Gujo, Executive Director of FEAPD, with Safaricom Ethiopia’s Chief External Affairs Officer, Andualem Admassie, also in attendance.
The partnership will focus on key areas such as digital inclusion, accessible technology, inclusive education, economic empowerment, healthcare and disability rights advocacy. The organisations aim to tackle barriers that restrict the participation of persons with disabilities and improve their access to essential services and opportunities.
Over the three-year period, Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation and FEAPD will leverage their combined expertise, resources and networks to expand access to technology, education, healthcare and economic opportunities for people living with disabilities. The partnership will also support initiatives that promote digital skills, improve access to inclusive services, strengthen economic participation and create greater opportunities for persons with disabilities to actively contribute to their communities and the wider economy.
Karen S., Vodacom Group Accessibility Lead, who participated virtually in the signing ceremony, welcomed the partnership and highlighted the importance of collaboration in advancing accessibility and inclusion.
The initiative forms part of Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation’s broader commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable society, with digital technology serving as a key enabler for reducing barriers and expanding opportunities for persons with disabilities.
