Samsung Electronics has announced a strategic partnership with Nvidia to accelerate the development of AI-powered Radio Access Network (AI-RAN) technologies, aiming to diversify computing platforms and drive the adoption of artificial intelligence in mobile networks.
The collaboration, revealed in a recent announcement by Samsung, builds on successful interoperability tests conducted late last year at Samsung Research’s lab. The tests integrated Samsung’s Open RAN-compliant virtualized RAN (vRAN) with Nvidia’s accelerated computing platform, paving the way for seamless AI deployment in software-based networks.
According to Samsung, the companies have successfully demonstrated a proof-of-concept that verifies how Nvidia’s accelerated computing can be integrated into virtualized networks, enhancing AI capabilities. The demonstration involved combining Samsung’s vRAN Distributed Unit (vDU) with Nvidia’s accelerated computing on a commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) server equipped with Samsung’s vRAN software.
“While AI is reshaping the telecommunications landscape, Samsung is helping operators build the right network architecture and environment where AI can thrive, all powered by our proven and AI-powered vRAN,” said June Moon, Executive Vice President and Head of R&D, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics.
“This collaboration with Nvidia signifies our continued efforts to expand the GPU and CPU ecosystem, and we look forward to exploring more possibilities in the future.”
AI-RAN: Transforming Network Efficiency
Samsung emphasized that the partnership will focus on further AI-RAN innovations using Nvidia’s Grace CPU and GPU-based AI platforms. These technologies will be tailored to meet diverse network environments, ranging from rural and suburban areas to dense urban regions.

The company also highlighted how its software-based network architecture is an ideal foundation for integrating AI across all layers of mobile communications. Beyond enhancing traditional mobile networks, Samsung believes the approach will enable networks to process general workloads, offering a data center-like architecture and unlocking new business opportunities.
“AI-RAN is a critical technology that delivers transformative gains in network utilization, efficiency, and performance while enabling new AI services,” said Ronnie Vasishta, Senior Vice President for Telecom at Nvidia.
“Samsung is a frontrunner in AI-RAN development. Their vRAN expertise and software, integrated with Nvidia’s AI-accelerated computing, will accelerate the path to AI-native wireless networks.”
Future-Focused Collaboration
Samsung and Nvidia plan to continue working together to explore new AI-RAN capabilities that optimize mobile networks for enhanced performance and efficiency. The partnership underscores Samsung’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge AI solutions while solidifying its position as a leader in next-generation wireless technologies.
