With nearly 20 years of experience in the telecom and fintech sectors working across multiple African countries, Patrick Attoungbre has charted himself an enviable career from a logistics manager to heading MTN Fintech Côte d’Ivoire as Chief Executive Officer.
At the beginning of November 2023, Patrick Attoungbre took over the helms of affairs at Fintech Côte d’Ivoire a subsidiary of MTN Group that offers digital financial services in the country.
Prior to his appointment, he served as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for MTN Côte d’Ivoire for over three years from April 2020 until November 2023.
During Patrick’s tenure as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for MTN Côte d’Ivoire, he played a pivotal role in reshaping the MTN brand and making substantial contributions to the country’s telecommunications sector. Over a three-year period, his leadership resulted in outstanding performance, marked by revenue growth, increased subscriber numbers, and a greater market share for MTN.
He also held a similar role as Chief Marketing Officer for MTN Cameroon from 2018 to 2022. His journey with the MTN group commenced in 2016 as a Head of Mobile Financial Services for MTN Congo Brazzaville during which he re-launching Mobile Money, including organizational structure redesign, strategy definition, distribution network set-up, key partnerships build-up and product marketing resulting in mobile money moving from being a niche service to becoming a widely used product in Congo.
Before joining the MTN Group the bilingual (French, English) Telecom executive worked with Millicom International Cellular (Tigo) in Rwanda for almost five years, from 2012 holding several roles rising from a Category Manager to a Pricing and Revenue Manager and to Chief Commercial Officer before exiting the company in 2016.
Patrick Attoungbre briefly worked at Millicom International Cellular in Dubia as an Innovation Consultant, from 2007 to 2009, he served as Customer Logistics Manager for Ericsson after working as Department head of quality and logistics at Société Africaine De Plantation D’hévéas (Saph) from 2005 – 2007.
Patrick Attoungbre has an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master’s degree in Logistics from the Institut National Polytechnique FHB in Côte d’Ivoire. He is also a distinguished alumnus of the Wharton School.
