Chinese tech giant Huawei has begun allowing customers to register their interest in an upcoming smartphone model it has yet to disclose, sparking rumours that the company may be on the verge of releasing the latest iteration of its P series phones.
The move follows Huawei’s re-entry into the premium smartphone market last year with its Mate 60 series, a launch hailed by state media as a significant achievement amid US sanctions. Notably, the resurgence of Huawei’s flagship Mate series has been linked to a decline in iPhone sales in China.
Speculation has been rife in recent months regarding the potential launch of the P70, anticipated to feature an advanced domestically produced chip similar to that found in the Mate 60. Known for their cutting-edge cameras and sleek design, Huawei’s P series smartphones cater to consumers seeking good photography capabilities and aesthetic appeal, while the Mate series prioritises performance and business-oriented features.
Despite a recent product launch event focusing on a smart car model and laptop, omitting any mention of smartphones, Huawei has swiftly shifted attention back to its mobile division by allowing interested buyers to register for updates on the upcoming phone model at its stores in Beijing without requiring a deposit.
Reuters has reported that though Huawei has declined to comment on the matter, sales staff have confirmed that registered customers would receive notifications regarding the phone’s specifications and colour options in due course.
