French automaker, Peugeot, has announced its collaboration with ChatGPT to enhance the voice assistant systems in its cars and vans, joining other car brands such as Volkswagen (VW) and Mercedes-Benz who also make use of the popular AI chatbot.
Director of Peugeot’s Product Plan, Jerome Micheron, shared the details during a media call on Tuesday, 30th January, 2024. Micheron stated that Peugeot intends to implement ChatGPT across its entire vehicle lineup, including the upcoming e-3008 model and small commercial vehicles.
Peugeot is set to launch a pilot version of the ChatGPT service on Wednesday in five countries, namely, France, Britain, Germany, Italy, and Spain. This pilot version will connect to vehicle controls and provide responses to general or navigation-related queries. The goal is to make the ChatGPT service standard equipment in all Peugeot vehicles later this year.
Peugeot’s move follows in the footsteps of Mercedes-Benz, which initiated a trial in the US last year, enabling drivers to interact with ChatGPT for more natural responses and assistance with a range of inquiries, from destination details to dinner suggestions. VW also recently announced plans to integrate ChatGPT into its voice assistant by mid-year, to facilitate interactive dialogue between the system and drivers.
In addition to the ChatGPT integration, Peugeot revealed its commitment to the electric vehicle (EV) market by introducing an extended eight-year warranty for the e-3008 model. This represents a significant increase from the current two-year warranty offered on other Peugeot cars. The extended warranty aims to encourage drivers to switch to EVs, helping bolster Peugeot’s efforts to contribute to the growing popularity of EVs.
