Nokia Unveils Carrier-Grade Wi-Fi 7 Portfolio for Unparalleled Broadband Experience

Nokia has announced the launch of its latest carrier-grade Wi-Fi 7 portfolio, designed to ensure that end-users enjoy the ultimate broadband experience, whether they’re streaming content, engaging in online gaming, or making video calls.

This innovative range of devices encompasses dual-band, tri-band, and quad-band configurations to address regulatory constraints and meet diverse market demands. Nokia said.

Nokia’s Wi-Fi 7 portfolio introduces an array of unique capabilities. The Beacon 24, for instance, features an innovative antenna design and orientation that enables omnidirectional coverage. This results in the best overall horizontal and vertical coverage, making it ideal for Wi-Fi devices across different floors.

Moreover, Nokia’s Beacon 24 supports multi-link operations (MLO) across four radio links. MLO is a groundbreaking concept in Wi-Fi 7, enhancing connection speeds by allowing devices to simultaneously send and receive data across different frequency bands and channels. Powering this cutting-edge portfolio is Nokia’s Corteca software, which works seamlessly from device applications, through the home, and into the cloud. This comprehensive approach maximizes Wi-Fi performance at every juncture, offering advanced Wi-Fi and device management.

Corteca is built on open industry standards, such as TR-369 and EasyMesh, and includes a marketplace with applications, including third-party offerings, compatible with fibre (ONT) gateways, FWA gateways, and mesh Wi-Fi beacons.

Justin Doucette, head of Wi-Fi for Fixed Networks Broadband Devices at Nokia, emphasized the role of Wi-Fi 7 in the evolving broadband landscape. “The world is moving to multi-gigabit with 25G fibre and 5G mmWave pushing the broadband speeds to the home to new heights. Wi-Fi 7 provides new capabilities that ensure these multi-gigabit broadband services can be achieved throughout the home. The combination of our new Wi-Fi 7 devices and our Corteca software gives operators the tools they need to deliver an unsurpassed broadband experience.”

Michael Philpott, Research Director, Digital Consumer Services at Omdia, highlighted the importance of interoperability in the adoption of Wi-Fi 7: “Wi-Fi 7 sets the stage for a faster, more connected future. However, any solution that is deployed should be compliant with the final Wi-Fi Alliance standard, which will be critical to interoperability. The standard will ensure that Wi-Fi devices work seamlessly together, delivering the quality and connectivity we all depend on in the digital world.”

Nokia’s new portfolio of Wi-Fi 7 solutions is expected to achieve full certification and compliance with the standard, which is anticipated to be finalized in early 2024. These innovative Wi-Fi solutions are set to become available in the first half of 2024, promising a new era of seamless and ultra-fast broadband experiences for consumers.
