Kenya is making significant strides in its digital transformation and smart governance initiatives, as seen by a recent meeting between key stakeholders from the Kenyan State Department of ICT and Digital Economy, Estonian Centre for International Development (ESTDEV), and GIZ Kenya.
The meeting, chaired by Kenya’s Principal Secretary for the State Department of ICT and Digital Economy, Eng. John Kipchumba Tanui, focused on enhancing collaboration and synergy between the involved partners. Discussions revolved around the progress of various collaborative projects, including the Digital Transformation Centre, Smart Governance initiatives, and capacity building programs for civil servants.
Eng. Tanui, in a LinkedIn post, expressed his enthusiasm about the ongoing and future collaborations, stressing the importance of strengthening partnerships to drive Kenya’s digital agenda forward. “This collaboration is crucial for our digital transformation journey. By working together, we can leverage each other’s strengths and resources to achieve our goals more effectively,” he said.
Attendees at the meeting included Alena Kern, Deputy Head at the Federal Foreign Office, German Embassy in Kenya; Bernd Lakemeier, Country Programs Director at GIZ Kenya; Triin Kangur from ESTDEV (who participated virtually); and Victoria Nkatha, Country Project Manager.
Key topics discussed during the meeting included:
- Digital Transformation Centre: Progress and future plans for the Centre, aimed at fostering innovation and digital skills development.
- Smart Governance: Initiatives to enhance government services through technology, making them more efficient, transparent, and accessible.
- Capacity Building: Training programs designed to equip civil servants with the necessary skills to support and implement digital initiatives.
The meeting highlighted the importance of building synergy between partners to ensure the successful implementation of programs. This collaborative approach is expected to accelerate Kenya’s digital transformation, ultimately contributing to the country’s economic growth and development.
In his post, Eng. Tanui reiterated his commitment to continue collaborating with the representatives from ESTDEV and GIZ Kenya towards a shared vision of a digitally empowered Kenya.
