Microsoft has introduced a small language artificial intelligence (AI) model, Phi-3-mini, designed to perform tasks such as content creation and social media post generation while utilizing smaller amounts of data.
With this move, Microsoft aims to offer companies with limited resources the opportunity to harness the power of AI to drive innovation, optimise processes, and achieve their digital objectives.
Reuters reports that a statement published by the tech giant stated that Phi-3-mini surpasses models twice its size across various benchmarks in assessing language proficiency, coding, and mathematical capabilities. The smaller AI model’s compact design enables it to execute simpler tasks efficiently, making it accessible to businesses with constrained resources.
According to Microsoft, Phi-3-mini offers versatile applications, allowing businesses to extract key insights from lengthy documents, summarise complex information, and identify industry trends from market research reports. The model’s capabilities align with the growing demand for AI-powered solutions to streamline workflows and enhance productivity across industries.
Phi-3-mini is now available on Microsoft’s cloud service platform, Azure’s, AI model catalogue, as well as on machine learning model platform, Hugging Face and Ollama, a framework for running models on local machines. This accessibility ensures widespread adoption and seamless integration into existing workflows for businesses seeking AI-driven solutions.
Microsoft’s unveiling of Phi-3-mini follows the company’s $1.5 billion investment in UAE-based AI firm, G42, as part of the tech giant’s commitment to advancing AI innovation globally. Moreover, Microsoft has previously collaborated with French startup, Mistral AI, to make their models accessible through its Azure cloud computing platform, further expanding its AI ecosystem.
