Energy company, GE Vernova, which has been driving Nigeria’s energy sector for over a century, has reaffirmed its commitment to continue bolstering the nation’s sustainable energy transition.
GE Vernova recently hosted the “Nigeria Energy Dialogue,” aiming to address issues on Nigeria’s energy transition, especially spanning generation, transmission, distribution, and consumption. Participants, which included governmental officials, financiers, and industry leaders, explored policy frameworks, technological innovations, and potential collaborations to foster a sustainable energy ecosystem.
Managing Director of Services – SSA at GE Vernova’s Gas Power, Kenneth Oyakhire mentioned the company’s long-term relationship with Nigeria, adding that GE Vernova is “committed to further strengthening it through creating localised solutions that will support Nigeria’s power infrastructure.”
Oyakhire also stated that “through collaborative efforts with the government and industry stakeholders, we aim to ensure that power generation assets continue to play a role in a cleaner energy future while delivering reliable, affordable, and sustainable power. GE Vernova has a long history of innovation, and we look forward to utilizing our global experience – leading with an installed base of 2,200 gigawatts – to make Nigeria’s energy transition a reality.”
Echoing this sentiment, U.S. Mission Commercial Counsellor, Julie LeBlanc, cited GE Vernova as an exemplar of capital investment, innovation, and adherence to international standards.
“The United States is a global leader in renewable energy,” LeBlanc said. “American companies, like GE Vernova, not only bring significant capital, innovation, and proven solutions, but they also adhere to the highest standards of transparency, quality, and social responsibility.”
As part of its efforts to bolster Nigeria’s energy landscape GE Vernova’s initiated the construction of the 1,350-megawatt Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant, fuelled by Nigerian natural gas and equipped with GE Vernova’s E-class gas turbines. Additionally, GE Vernova commissioned four 175 MW Francis hydropower turbines and generators for the Zungeru hydropower project in Niger State. The company’s involvement also extends to the Aba Integrated Power Project, where it provided three LM6000 PD aeroderivative gas turbines.
These initiatives underscore GE Vernova’s pivotal role in advancing Nigeria’s energy transition, catering to the nation’s growing population, industrialization, and rising electricity demand. As Nigeria strives for economic growth and improved quality of life, GE Vernova remains steadfast in its commitment to sustainable energy solutions, driving progress towards a cleaner and brighter future.
