The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) Dr. Vincent Olatunji has emphasized the importance of continuous learning in the field of data protection, during a session of the D4D Development Hub project in Lagos.
The D4D Development Hub project is a joint initiative of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) and the African European Union (AU-EU) to enhance the digital skills and employability of Nigerian youth in emerging technologies, such as cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. The project offers free online and offline training courses, mentorship, career guidance, and job placement opportunities to the participants, who receive internationally recognized certifications upon completion.
Dr. Olatunji said data protection is a dynamic and evolving field that requires constant updating of knowledge and skills. He said that the NDPC is committed to providing quality training and capacity building for data protection officers, processors, and controllers, as well as raising awareness and compliance among the public and private sectors.
He also said that the NDPC is collaborating with local and international partners, such as the AU-EU, the GIZ Digital Transformation Center (DTC) Nigeria, and Amazon Web Services (AWS), to deliver the D4D Development Hub project and to create a culture of data protection and privacy in Nigeria.
Dr. Olatunji further encouraged the participants of the D4D Development Hub project to take advantage of the opportunity and learn as much as they could from the trainers and mentors. He said that the project will not only equip them with the skills and knowledge that are in high demand in the global digital economy but also open up new career paths and possibilities for them. He also urged them to apply what they learn to their businesses and organisations and to share their experiences and insights with others.
About the Development Hub

The Development Hub Project is part of the AU-EU Digital for Development (D4D) Hub project, which supports African institutions to lay grounds for an inclusive and sustainable digital transformation.
The D4D Development Hub project is open to all interested individuals who meet the eligibility criteria and who have access to a computer and internet connection. One of the activities of the project is to organise data protection training for data officers, processors, and controllers, in partnership with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), the GIZ Digital Transformation Center (DTC) Nigeria, and other local experts.
The training aims to foster a comprehensive understanding of the principles, regulations, and best practices associated with safeguarding sensitive information, and to create a culture of data protection and privacy awareness.
