Sierra Leonne’s president, Julius Maada Bio, has lauded the Commissioner of the National Commission for Children, Mrs. Joyce Tejan Kella, and members of the Sierra Leone Robotics Team to celebrate their success at the FIRST global robotics challenge held in Singapore.
The FIRST Robotics Competition, a platform for high school students to construct industrial-size robots and engage in field games with other teams, witnessed the participation of over 190 countries. Team Robotics Sierra Leone secured the 50th position out of 191 countries.
President Julius Maada Bio met with the team on their return, commending members for their performance and acknowledging the challenges they faced competing against countries with greater resources and tech giants. While Sierra Leonne did not secure the gold medal, President Bio noted that the team’s achievement was proof of the nation’s progress and that continuous improvement was paramount.
He encouraged the team to persevere and strive for excellence in future competitions, expressing confidence in their potential to bring further glory to Sierra Leone. President Bio praised their dedication and hard work, reiterating his support for the nation’s youth and their role in shaping the country’s future.
During the meeting, Mrs. Joyce Tejan Kella presented the team’s report and certificates to President Bio, expresing gratitude for his unwavering support and encouragement extended to the team.
The meeting concluded with President Bio extending his congratulations to the team members, applauding their achievements and reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting their endeavours.
