The Digital Lab, a Libyan initiative aimed at fostering innovation and digital transformation, has officially unveiled its Innovations Map online platform, which will serve to connect innovators, entrepreneurs, researchers, and investors across the country.
At the launch ceremony which took place at the headquarters of the General Information Authority in Tripoli, the Chairman of the Authority, Abdelbaset Albaor, highlighted the significance of the platform in advancing Libya’s national digital transformation strategy. He stressed the collaborative efforts between Libyan institutions and international partners, which has created the potential for a thriving and innovative digital ecosystem in Libya.
The Libyan Digital Lab, established under the supervision of the General Information Authority with support from the E-nable project funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by Expertise France, aims to boost creativity, innovation, and accelerate Libya’s digital transformation journey.
The Digital Lab team, comprising representatives from key government institutions responsible for digitisation and technology, has benefited from technical expertise provided by international digital specialists and experts. Notably, a study tour to Paris offered valuable insights into the French approach to digital strategy and practical applications of digital tools.
Head of Cooperation at the EU Delegation to Libya, Marton Benedek, noted that digital technologies played an important role in supporting economic resilience, boosting SMEs’ competitiveness, and facilitating the green transition. He repeated the EU’s commitment to supporting Libyan institutions in adapting governance systems to the digitalised world.
Country Representative and Programs Director at Expertise France in Libya, Julien Schmitt, was delighted at the launch of the Innovations Map, due to its role in supporting digital innovation in Libya and fuelling the development of a more inclusive and collaborative innovation landscape.
Libya launching the Innovations Map is a milestone for the Digital Lab, as this shows Libya’s innovation potential and ongoing projects to a wider audience. The platform facilitates collaboration between innovators across government, public, and private sectors, while also serving as a platform for knowledge sharing and showcasing successful solutions.
