Apple is reportedly planning to introduce a built-in calculator app for the iPad, over 14 years since the device’s inception, as part of its upcoming iPadOS 18 software update.
According to a source familiar with the matter, the calculator app will be compatible with all iPad models eligible for the software update. The unveiling is expected to take place during the opening keynote of Apple’s annual developers conference WWDC on 10th June.
The absence of an official Calculator app for the iPad has been a recurring topic on social media, with users expressing satisfaction at the rumour about its arrival. In the absence of a native app, iPad users were forced to turn to third-party calculator apps available on the App Store, such as PCalc and Calcbot, to fulfill their calculation needs.
Recent reports from AppleInsider suggest that macOS 15 will also feature a revamped calculator app, potentially sharing similarities with the upcoming iPad version. The redesigned Mac app is rumoured to integrate with the Notes app, offer a resizable window, include a sidebar showcasing recent calculations, and more. While these details have not been independently confirmed, speculation suggests that the updated Mac app may draw inspiration from its iPad counterpart.
Following the WWDC keynote, the first beta version of iPadOS 18 is expected to be released promptly, with the update slated for broader availability in September.
