Leading data technology giant, Africa Data Centres, has partnered cloud computing giant, Unicloud Africa, and Tier IV colocation services provider, ONIX Data Centres, to establish more resilient cloud and data infrastructure in Ghana.
The partnership was signed on the side lines of the 13th Ghana Information Technology and Telecom Awards (GITTA), which was held on 7th June, 2024 at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra. The awards event celebrated and appreciated innovations and leaders in Ghana’s ICT field.
Through their partnership, Africa Data Centres and ONIX Data Centres aim to provide high-quality, reliable data centre services that can support increased data traffic, improve network reliability, and ensure robust data storage solutions in Ghana.
Africa Data Centres’ Regional Executive for West Africa, Dr. Krishnan Ranganath, noted that the partnership was a “stepping stone” for African Data Centres as the company makes its way into the Ghanaian market. He added, “Our collaboration with ONIX Data Centres allows us to leverage innovative technologies and sustainable practices, enhancing our ability to serve the West African market effectively.”
ONIX Data Centres established Ghana’s first-ever Tier IV data centre in 2022, and stands among the country’s top players in the data field. CEO, Yen Choi, revealed that ONIX’s data centre in Accra could be compared to 30 tennis courts in size, and that it is ready to offer data storage services to Ghanaian businesses and SMEs.
For his part, CEO of Unicloud Africa, Ladi Okuneye, was excited about the prospect of “bringing domesticated cloud services to the Ghanaian market.” He remarked, “Unicloud Africa is a pan African cloud services provider and we deploy our services at state-of-the-art data centres across the continent. And one of the strategic partners that we are going into different markets in Africa with is Africa Data Centres. So, upon our entry into the Ghanaian markets, we thought it was benefiting for us to come in at a time that they were also establishing their strategic relationship with ONIX.”
Okuneye noted that, “Data that’s been generated within the Ghanaian market should stay within the Ghanaian market. It will continue to grow; it will continue to become more manageable.” Speaking on Unicloud’s goals, he added, “So what we’re doing is we’re creating an opportunity for SME’s small enterprises to still be able to leverage the effects of technology, to leverage the effects of cloud computing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and all these benefits that technology is bringing to the efficiency of our business.”
