Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming from a mere digital assistant into a collaborative colleague, according to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.
Speaking at the Snowflake Summit 2025, Altman highlighted the shifting role of AI, suggesting it is poised to unlock new realms of knowledge and reshape workplace dynamics.
Altman described how AI agents, such as ChatGPT, are increasingly integrated into workflows, performing tasks akin to those of entry-level employees.
“You hear people talk about their job now is to assign work to a bunch of agents, look at the quality, figure out how it fits together, give feedback,” Altman said, drawing parallels to managing junior team members. These AI agents generate outputs, receive feedback, and iteratively improve, mirroring human team collaboration.

Looking ahead, Altman predicted that by 2026, AI agents could tackle more complex challenges, including discovering new knowledge and solving intricate business problems.
“I would bet next year that in some limited cases, at least in some small ways, we start to see agents that can help us discover new knowledge, or can figure out solutions to business problems that are kind of very non-trivial,” he stated.
Altman’s remarks underscore the rapid evolution of AI, positioning it as a pivotal force in redefining professional roles and innovation.
