Nutanix has announced Project Beacon, a long-term initiative aimed at offering a range of data-centric Platform as a Service (PaaS) services that can be accessed anywhere, whether on Nutanix infrastructure or native public cloud platforms. The project’s objective is to decouple applications and their data from the underlying infrastructure, enabling developers to build applications once and deploy them in various environments.
Currently, organizations face lock-in with PaaS services tied to specific public clouds, making application migration costly and complex. Project Beacon seeks to address this issue by providing data-centric PaaS services independent of infrastructure providers. Nutanix aims to deliver a suite of platform services with a unified API and console, integrated with Kubernetes container orchestration and consistent management capabilities across environments.

The services will offer simplified management, automated mobility, portable licensing, self-service for developers and robust security and governance features. This approach will provide developers access to data-centric PaaS services in native public cloud, on-premises or edge environments, while allowing operations teams to maintain control over data governance, compliance and protection.
