In a move for the telecommunications sector, MTN South Sudan and the National Communications Authority (NCA) have officially introduced electronic SIM (eSIM) technology to the local market.
MTN South Sudan has taken the lead as the first operator in the country to roll out eSIM technology, marking a significant step in enhancing digital connectivity. Speaking at the launch, Ali Monzer, CEO of MTN South Sudan, emphasized the milestone’s importance.
“Today marks another milestone in South Sudan’s telecommunications journey. As MTN, we are proud to be the first operator in the country to launch eSIM technology. This is not just about innovation; it’s about simplifying connectivity and delivering convenience to our customers,” he said.
The NCA, South Sudan’s telecommunications regulator, has pledged its support for this innovation. “As a regulator, we are committed to assisting MTN and other mobile operators in making eSIM-enabled smartphones accessible to the public,” said Napoleon Adok Gai, the NCA’s Director General.

Gai highlighted the benefits of eSIM technology, noting its potential to enhance customer experiences while improving security. He also stressed the importance of customer education and support in ensuring a seamless transition to the new technology.
The introduction of eSIM technology is expected to revolutionize the way South Sudanese consumers connect to mobile networks, offering them greater convenience and flexibility in managing their mobile subscriptions.
