Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta Platforms, has introduced new AI products for consumers. These include bots that can generate photo-realistic images, smart glasses that can answer questions, and an updated virtual reality headset.
Zuckerberg emphasized that these products combine the virtual and real worlds, and highlighted that Meta offers low-cost or free AI that can merge into daily routines.
Meta’s Quest, currently the top-selling VR device, is considered the best value in the industry, especially with the upcoming release of a more expensive headset from Apple.
During a speech at Meta’s Silicon Valley campus, Zuckerberg announced that the latest generation of Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses will be available for shipping on October 17th. Priced at $299, these glasses will feature a new Meta AI assistant and the ability to live-stream what the user sees directly to Facebook and Instagram, surpassing the previous generation’s capability of only taking photos.
Zuckerberg delivered a speech at the Meta Connect conference, which marked the social media company’s largest event of the year and its first in-person conference since the beginning of the pandemic.
During the conference, Zuckerberg announced that the latest Quest mixed-reality headset would begin shipping on 10 October.
Additionally, he introduced Meta’s initial generative AI products for consumers, including a chatbot named Meta AI. This chatbot has the capability to generate text responses and photo-realistic images.
Zuckerberg emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation, stating that they strive to make cutting-edge technology more accessible and affordable for everyone.
Meta AI will serve as an assistant integrated into smart glasses, starting with a beta release in the United States.
In the following year, a software update is planned to enable the assistant to identify objects and locations that users encounter, as well as provide language translation services.
