The integration of digital technologies is gradually revolutionizing road traffic management in Africa, offering innovative solutions to enhance traffic flow and safety. Senegal is at the forefront of this transformation with a new project aimed at modernizing its transport infrastructure.
Senegal’s Minister of Infrastructure, Land, and Air Transport, Malick Ndiaye, met with Terry HE, President of Huawei Northern Africa. The meeting focused on implementing a road traffic digitalization project designed to streamline traffic flow and improve road safety across the country.
Key adjustments were approved during the meeting to maximize the project’s impact. Plans include establishing a comprehensive network across the Dakar region, ensuring optimized distribution of digital devices for effective coverage.
Additionally, the number of traffic radars will be doubled, particularly in high-risk interurban areas. The project will also involve the training of 10 Senegalese engineers who will manage the digital platforms and infrastructure autonomously.

This development follows Huawei’s presentation of an intelligent and connected transport system to the Senegalese government last month. The initiative aligns with Senegal’s broader digital transformation strategy, which seeks to modernize infrastructure while leveraging innovative technologies to address urban and national mobility challenges.
Scheduled for implementation next year, the project aims to significantly enhance traffic flow, reduce road accidents, and optimize traffic violation monitoring. Furthermore, the training program for Senegalese engineers will bolster the country’s technological capabilities, ensuring the project’s sustainability while fostering local expertise in critical digital sectors.
