Nigerian architect Olajumoke Adenowo has joined Flutterwave as an independent non-executive member of its global board of directors, as the company seeks to drive its international expansion strategy.
Founded in 2016, Flutterwave has rapidly expanded and now has a presence in about 30 African countries, and has recently gained a foothold in India, offering its remittance services to Asia’s second-biggest economy.
Adenowo is Flutterwave’s first independent non-executive board member. Armed with over 35 years experience in architecture, she will help the startup strengthen its pan-African and global positioning, the company revealed on Monday, 26th February.
Speaking on the appointment, Flutterwave’s founder and CEO, Olugbenga GB Agboola, noted that “Olajumoke’s insights and strategic vision will be invaluable assets as we continue to pioneer innovative solutions and drive impactful change across Africa and beyond.”
Who is Olajumoke Adenowo?
An alumnus of Harvard Business School, MIT, and Yale School of Management, Olajumoke Adenowo is a versatile individual specializing in chartered architecture, academics, philanthropism, and entrepreneurship. She’s also a radio show host and an author, with her latest book making her the first African and first black architect published by New York publisher, Rizzoli.
In 1994, Olajumoke founded AD Consulting, a prominent architecture and design firm in Nigeria. She also founded Awesome Treasures Foundation, an NGO recognised by the UN, which empowers thousands of women, Olajumoke has significantly impacted her people and country. She is also the founder of Advantage Energy, an Oil and Gas services company.
Olajumoke has served on prestigious panels such as the Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards and has spoken at global forums like the Global Women’s Forum, Harvard Business School, Cambridge University, and MIT.
Recognised for her achievements, she has been honored with awards such as Forbes Woman Africa Entrepreneur of the Year 2020 and Africa’s Most Inspiring Business Woman by Africa Economic Builders. CNN has dubbed her “Africa’s Starchitect,” and she’s known as “the face of Architecture in Nigeria” by The Guardian.
