The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Masubir Mahama, has revealed that the ECG’s PowerApp has acquired 3.5 million users, growing from the initial 250,000 users when the app was launched two years ago.
Speaking during a radio interview on Peace FM, Mahama attributed the app’s success to its user-friendly interface. He noted how it has facilitated convenient access to ECG’s services for customers, allowing them to manage electricity-related matters from the comfort of their homes. He expressed appreciation for the positive response and urged all customers to actively participate in the ongoing nationwide meter audit exercise.
Mahama also spoke on ECG’s commitment to continuous innovation, aiming to enhance customer experience by introducing user-centric services. He encouraged customers to use official channels when interacting with the company, cautioning against engaging middlemen to avoid encountering challenges.
Metre Acquisition
Addressing misconceptions about metre acquisition, Mahama clarified that ECG does not sell metres; instead, the company charges service connection fees. He urged customers to use the official mobile app or visit ECG offices to obtain meters.
Highlighting the company’s stance on metre ownership, Mahama stated, “we recoup the cost of the meter over a period of time. It’s not an instant sale.” He further urged individuals who have paid for meters through middlemen to visit ECG offices, as the company has meters in its custody for distribution.
Additionally, Mahama cautioned customers to exercise caution when dealing with individuals claiming to be ECG staff. It is very important that customers verify the identities of such persons and use only official channels for all transactions.
