Huawei’s Carrier Business President James Chen outlined the company’s strategy for harnessing the combined potential of AI and networks to drive greater business value. In a speech titled “Network+AI, Unleashing More Business Value” at the 10th Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF 2024), Chen introduced Huawei’s “FOUR NEW” approach, which focuses on four pillars: new hub, new services, new experience, and new operation.
He emphasized that these components are essential for expanding market reach, fostering service innovation, enhancing competitiveness, optimizing network operations, and achieving business growth. “Huawei is committed to collaborating with global carriers and partners to unlock new business value and build a digital, intelligent future through this ‘FOUR NEW’ strategy,” he added.
As the ultra-broadband (UBB) and AI sectors continue to grow, the global landscape reflects a rapid evolution in both industries. Today, gigabit fiber broadband users have surpassed 300 million, with average home broadband speeds reaching 570 Mbps. Worldwide, there are over 1,300 foundational AI models and more than 30,000 AI-related companies. The UBB and AI sectors complement each other, driving the spread of gigabit broadband and advancing digital applications.
Key Elements of Huawei’s “FOUR NEW” Strategy
- New Hub:
The “new hub” centers on an AI Hub designed for home services, which enables the development of AI agents that can connect with people, devices, and applications. These agents understand and fulfill household needs, manage smart devices, and integrate AI applications to expand home service boundaries, opening new business opportunities for carriers in the home market. - New Services:
AI-powered services allow carriers to build a home AI application ecosystem, aggregating high-quality content to elevate traditional offerings and introduce innovative home services such as interactive fitness, home service robots, healthcare, and education. By enhancing lifestyle quality, this new AI-driven ecosystem advances smart home environments. - ALSO READ: NIGERIA’S BENUE STATE SIGNS DEAL WITH HUAWEI TO DRIVE DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION
- New Experience:
Emerging services like cloud gaming, live commerce, and AI-enhanced media searches demand high network quality in terms of latency, bandwidth, and jitter. This demand creates new monetization avenues for carriers, including latency-based, upstream bandwidth-based, and AI-function-based pricing models. To ensure a seamless experience, Huawei encourages carriers to develop “Premium vertical and premium horizontal” networks, achieving ultra-low latency with 1 ms connections between data centers. - New Operation:
As networks expand, autonomous network operations become crucial. Huawei’s L4 autonomous driving network, based on the Telecom Foundation Model, boosts efficiency by reducing customer complaints, enhancing service provisioning speed, and minimizing the need for on-site visits, all while accelerating issue resolution.
The “FOUR NEW” strategy represents a comprehensive path for driving digital intelligence and unlocking the business value of networks. Huawei’s collaborative, customer-centered approach will guide the global telecom industry through the digital era, advancing toward a future where AI and networks together bring prosperity in an intelligent world.
