ChatGPT parent company, OpenAI, has reportedly delayed the launch of its custom GPT store until early 2024, as revealed in an internal memo obtained by Reuters on Friday.
Originally introduced during OpenAI’s inaugural developer conference in November, the custom Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPTs) and their accompanying store were initially slated to launch later in the same month. However, the company has decided to extend the timeline to make necessary improvements to the GPTs based on valuable customer feedback.
The GPTs represent early versions of artificial intelligence assistants designed to carry out real-world tasks, such as making flight reservations on behalf of users. Additionally, the custom GPT store was anticipated to enable users to share their GPTs and potentially earn income based on user engagement.
This delay coincides with recent organizational shifts at OpenAI, notably the surprise removal of CEO Sam Altman by the board and his subsequent reinstatement, in response to employee threats to resign. Despite these internal challenges, OpenAI remains committed to refining and enhancing its GPT offerings, ensuring they meet the highest standards before being made available to the public.
The decision to postpone the launch reflects OpenAI’s dedication to delivering a robust and improved product, taking into account user insights and feedback for a more seamless and effective user experience.
