Digital Realty, a leading global provider of cloud- and carrier-neutral data centre infrastructure, has opened its new 6.4-megawatt Nairobi Two Data Center (NBO2), expanding its existing Nairobi campus and strengthening Kenya’s position as a key digital infrastructure hub in East Africa.

The new facility was developed alongside Nairobi One (NBO1) to support the growing demand for cloud services, interconnection and data-driven technologies across the region. The expanded campus provides customers with access to more than 100 networks, two internet exchange points and a satellite teleport, creating a highly connected environment for digital services and cross-border connectivity.

The launch also coincides with iColo’s transition to the Digital Realty brand in Kenya and Mozambique, bringing the company’s established local presence into Digital Realty’s global platform. The integration is expected to provide businesses operating in the region with greater opportunities to scale locally while connecting with international cloud providers, carriers, content companies and enterprises.

According to Wanja Muriithi, Country General Manager of Digital Realty Kenya, the development reflects the continued growth of Kenya’s digital economy and iColo’s evolution within a global infrastructure network. The combination of local connectivity and Digital Realty’s international ecosystem is designed to help businesses expand within Kenya while accessing wider digital markets.

The facility comes at a time when cloud adoption, enterprise digitalisation, data sovereignty requirements and demand for reliable digital services are increasing across East Africa. NBO2 adds capacity that can help organisations keep critical data and applications within appropriate jurisdictions while still maintaining connections to global platforms, partners and markets.

The campus also offers a satellite teleport, providing an alternative connectivity route for locations where terrestrial infrastructure may be limited. This adds another layer of resilience and supports organisations seeking geographically distributed connectivity and dependable access to digital services across the region.

Marcel Louw, Managing Director for Africa at Digital Realty, said, “Digital transformation depends on infrastructure that is local, connected, and globally scalable. With NBO2 now live, Digital Realty is strengthening Nairobi’s position as a gateway for East Africa and extending the value of PlatformDIGITAL to customers seeking resilient colocation, interconnection and hybrid IT solutions. This campus gives businesses the foundation to bring data, applications and partners closer together, whether they are serving customers in Kenya, across Africa or around the world”
