The Vihiga County Government in Kenya has formed a partnership with Chinese firm Huawei and Equity Bank to offer training programs in Information Communications Technology (ICT) and financial literacy to the youth. Huawei has deployed a mobile truck equipped with power and internet ports, allowing desktops and laptops to be set up for use. The truck will travel throughout the county, providing access to potential learners. Equity Bank, on the other hand, will contribute employees who will provide training in financial literacy.

The training program, which began on Tuesday, aims to equip participants with essential ICT skills, enhancing their employability and enabling them to secure online jobs. Vihiga Governor, Dr. Wilber Ottichilo, expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Information Communications and Digital Economy for establishing an ICT hub at Kaimosi Friends College, which will benefit both the college community and the local residents. Additional digital hubs are also planned for Sabatia and Bunyore Technical and Vocational Training Centres.

Dr. Ottichilo announced that the ICT Authority, an agency under the Ministry, will install Wi-Fi hotspots in major market centers such as Mbale, Luanda, Chavakali and Mudete. This initiative aims to increase internet accessibility and connectivity for the local population.
